Medical Education

Physician Assitant

The doctor-patient ratio in Ghana and indeed many parts of Africa is low. The effects of brain drain can be felt in almost all professions, and more so in the medical profession. This, coupled with the long period of training needed to produce a single doctor and the limited capacity of providing institutions, makes it imperative that a more cost effective, rapid and effective solution be found to the problem of scarcity of medical personnel. It is with this in mind that some Universities in Ghana introduced the Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistantship.

The Physician Assistantship  Programme has as mission to partner the Government of Ghana in providing deliberate and co-ordinated educational opportunities that equip the youth of this country to participate in interventions aimed at solving the health problems of the nation.

The objectives of the programme are to train graduates who will possess the ability to evaluate the health status of an individual, diagnose and treat acute illness as well as life saving interventions, manage chronic diseases, deliver preventive care and counsel individuals on psychosocial problems in collaboration with a physician.

in 2015 there were only 3 universities in Ghana who offered the course of Physicain Assistant and following the Ranking of Universities the Presbyterian University College Ghana is the best University in Ghana that offers the course of Physician Assistant. The cost is similar of other schools.

In May 2015 Alfa got admission in the Presbytarian University College at Agogo. He holdsed the necessary qualifications to get admission (i.e. aggregate of 36 or better in WASSCE results). In September 2015 he started with the courses and settled in a room at Agogo.

Medical Doctor

There are 5 universities in Ghana where it is possible to become a medical doctor. The available places are limited and expensive. On top the selection criteria are quite subjective.
In order to obtain his objective to become a doctor Alfa decided to look for opportunities in Ukraine to further his education.
