Support Ghana

Hello,

My name is Luc Somers and I am the organizer of Support Ghana.

Support Ghana is a small scale Belgian organisation that works together with people of the communities in Kpando district Ghana. We focus on education (renovation of schoolbuildings and scholarships), health care (renovation of Health Centres and woundcare) stimulating sports and preservation of cultural identity.

In 2008 I met Alfa for the first time as he was a player of a small football team we organized for the young children in Kpando Zongo and Konda area.

Alfa was one of the first players to leave the team to focus on his education. In 2011 he was the first student Support Ghana helped to further his secundary education at Kasec.
In 2013 I also helped him personaly to start up a video game center to give him the opportunity to make some money himself and to be less depending on gifts for his feeding and transportation.

Alfa is a very special and intelligent boy who I know to be very studious. Always ready for deep discussions, a dedicated moslim, but very open minded. I am always surprized by the zeal he puts inside every initiative he takes. He is very versatile and sometimes has problems to put focus. He always surprizes me with all his various talents (dressing wounds, organizing tourist groups, teaching extra classes, playing sports, knowledge of the Koran, speaking different languages, ...).

The past six years his main ambition was and still is to become a medical doctor. A dream that is almost impossible for a boy with his background.

During all these years Alfa became one of my best friends and as the budget of Support Ghana is to limited to pay tertiary level education I decided to help him to organize to raise the huge budget to make his dream come true and to contribute to the health care system in Ghana.

Alfa met a lot of visitors from Europe and USA the past years. So we hope that we can convince some of you to contribute to his education.
I want to engage myself to coordinate the fundraising, to guide Alfa, to survey the expenditures and his school results and to report periodically through this website.

My main aim is to give him a better future instead of hope for a better future. I want to ask you all to help me to make Alfa his dream come true.

Every donation, how little it can be will help.
